The Glass Virgin

The Glass Virgin by Catherine Cookson

I actually enjoyed this book.  It was quick reading and you just kept moving along.  I do not like lots of tiny details all the time.   This was written in 1969.  This is a book that women in 1969 would have been purchasing.   Would this been something my Mother would have read?  I wonder what their thoughts on this book were?  I enjoyed thinking about the women that would have read this before me and what their lives were like.  I wonder if they were on a waiting list for this at the Library or did they go to a book store to buy it.

Now to tell you a little bit about the book.

This book is about love and class conflict.
The Main Character Annabella Lagrange is raised by an aristrocatic couple who shelter her.  When she turns 18 she finds out the truth about the circumstances of her birth.  She is suddenly forced from the life she knows to the lower-class society of Victorian England.  She however does have a protector through her ordeal that saves her in many instances.
Overall this is an enjoyable read and I think one that it would be a good book club read.

Thoughts on my reading

I think that lately I have picked books that NO way can mirror reality. I got to thinking about this and discussing some it with my Sister in Law. I mentioned to her that I was NOT in love with the book The Time Travelers Wife. I know everyone loved it and well frankly I feel like the Time Travelers Wife with my husband coming and going in my life. He is never here and I did not find anything at all endearing at all about that book. My Dear Sister in Law pointed out that it was too much like my life and I totally did not enjoy it for that very reason. I got to thinking about that and she is right. Anything that seems to mirror something in my life I do not really give five stars. I find that I enjoy books that take me away from reality right now. However, I enjoy some good old fashion Erotica  romance novels from time to time.

I guess that is where I am with my reading.

Glamoured

I have been glamoured. OK another Vampire BOOK. Yeah it glamoured ME. I sat looking at my two hundred plus books all around me and nothing called to me. I went shopping and from the shelf I was glamoured by a Vampire Book. Yep and that is all I have to say about it.

Sookie Stackhouse Series/True Blood

I just finished the 8 books in the Sookie Stackhouse Series that is so very popular right now. I got the eight books for 19.99 and I love a bargain. The books are fast to read. I can see the change in the character from the beginning of the books to the 8Th book. She sort of goes from being a bit insecure to becoming more secure and comfortable with herself. She comes in to her asexuality also. Sometimes I got a little frustrated with the author because I felt like she dumbed the main character (Sookie) down. There are always twists and turns in her love life and I think that is what is going to keep me hooked. I liked her first Love Bill and I Liked Eric because he is such a rebel and I have a thing for rebels! I never did like Quinn at all because of all the BABE this and that. Babe just rubs me the wrong way! I am currently hoping her and Eric get together but I also sort of LIKE SAM her boss.

I am neutral about the books. I can go either way.

I also watched the First Season of True Blood. The series is different enough from the books that at times it feels like you have not read the books. The characters really do not match the characters in the books at all. OK I guess slightly but overall it gives you total different opinions. Watching the Series I am not as fond of Sam as I was in the book. The Eric in the book is probably right now much like the one portrayed on the series. They did pick ONE HOT Actor to play Eric. I pictured Pam to be Younger than the one in the series. It all is just different enough to want to see what happens. The book does not have as much of Jason as the series does and Jason in the series is strange but HOT.

My Husband sat through a couple of the DVD with me and he wanted to know why in the world I was watching this. I explained that I was reading the series. He said it was the worst acted stuff he had ever seen and could not believe I was watching this drivel. I continued to watch it because it actually is sometimes so CAMPY and funny. My Husband has secretly stood in the kitchen watching and laughed at this whole scene when the Character Jason took to much of the V and his privates would not descend to its proper size! I laughed and laughed and well so did my ALL to serious Husband.

It made for a good laugh and some great teasing between my husband and myself. So yeah I will finish watching this too. It is like my addiction to WEEDS, my husband just does not understand it. I find it all funny and entertaining but he however is lacking something in that department.

Now I do have the 9Th book to read but I need to break away from Vampires for a little while and come back to reality. I think it is time for some good old fashion Erotica....no I mean HMMM I do not really know what I mean!

I will look over my collection of books and decide what is next.

Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon

The Outlander Series to me is like the Twilight Series is to many of the Twilight Fans. You have your Edward and of course Bella but I have my Jamie and of course Clarie!

I preordered this latest Book and am Waiting for it to arrive in the Mail. I will be stalking my Postal Carrier and if it was the HOT MAIL MAN I would probably HUG and KISS HIM but I think my Post Carrier these days is a female. Well anyway I have been waiting for MY JAMIE and soon I will be reunited with MY JAMIE and OK CLARIE!

I can not wait!

This Book had good reviews. I seem to be out of sync with everyone else most of the time because I HATED THIS BOOK. YES it had great details of HISTORY but I can honestly say I think I could burn this book! GASP! I do not believe any book should ever be burned because to me there is someone out there that will love that book. I HOPE THIS BOOK FINDS A NICE HOME ON SOMEONE ELSE'S SHELF.

I liked this book. It was a fast read and interesting. The book had lots of details. I like details but at times it was ALMOST just to much! You are like OK OK get on with it. This book is not for everyone. This is not a book that readily jumps to mind if a friend asks for a recommendation on something to read.
